This is theoretical. I don't see myself installing lockers or LSD in the truck anytime soon.
Since I have manual locking hubs upfront would a locker (Aussie or Detroit) in my front axle affect normal 2wd driving? I'm thinking since the hubs are disconnected the wheels could still turn freely around corners and when they are engaged that means I have 4wd engaged and I'm off road. If I did this I'd also get an LSD for the rear so it's tame on the street but not completely useless off road.

Correct. I've heard of some people hearing clicking noises around turns with an LSD though, but that's about it.

The Aussie lockers are supposed to make a clicking noise, as yamahog mentioned.
In the front you won't notice the locker during regular 2WD driving because your hubs are disconnected.

Thanks. I'm trying to make a very street able yet pretty capable off road rig out of my Tacoma. The tires won't get bigger than 30s (maybe 31s), I'll get recovery equipment and I'll have a front locker and lsd in the rear. Maybe a 2 inch lift. I don't want to get lower than 22mpg highway though, I get 24 now on stock height and 29 inch all terrains.

Can confirm. I have one up front in my XJ. It doesn't make noise, even without locking hubs the Jeeps have.
I also had just a front locker and open rear & the difference in capability was astonishing, while keeping drivability. (VS open front/rear)

Tires and lift will definitely eat at your MPG :/ I only have 3" lift on the XJ and with an upgrade to 31" MTs I've lost at least 1MPG, also gained a lot of road noise if that matters to you. IDK where you live but maybe keep the ATs for winter, MTs are shit on ice.
The Taco guys here will probably have tons more advice for you too, and my SO wants me to recommend a Detroit TruTrac for durability but I have no personal experience.

With manual locking hubs a front locker is not a problem. But you can basically never lock the hubs for any kind of street driving, even snow, because you pretty much can't steer on dry pavement without all kinds of issues. It will be fine in any 2WD situation.
I'd prefer an air locker in the front for that reason.

Mostly Detroit Lockers.
